Playlist: In These Streets
This is a playlist that I’ve slowly been curating over the past 2-3 years. It’s a collection of my favorite songs that I feel truly capture the plight of the black experience. It’s not necessarily “Protest music”, so to speak, but it features a lot of introspective songs that cover topics from systemic oppression, to police brutality, to gang violence, to simply loving your blackness.
I’ve been using this playlist when awful situations of police violence against black people enter the news cycle. Maybe you could find the same refuge in these songs. Or maybe you’re just looking for new music. Whatever the case: I hope you like it. Playlist links below.
